Important Rules related to Family Pension – Rule 11 to 15
11. What happens if family pension, additional family pension or dearness relief contains a fraction of a rupee?
Where the family pension or additional family pension or dearness relief contains a fraction of a rupee, it shall be rounded off to the next higher rupee.
12. Is the amount of pension commuted by the deceased pensioner deducted from the family pension?
No, the amount of pension commuted by the deceased pensioner is not deducted from the family pension.
13. Who are the members of the family eligible for family pension?
The following members of the family of a deceased Government servant or pensioner are eligible for family pension?
(i). Spouse of the deceased Government servant or pensioner.
(ii). Unmarried sons below the age of 25 years and unmarried/widowed/divorced daughters (without any age limit), who are not earning their livelihood.
(iii). A child suffering from a mental or physical disability and not earning his or her livelihood (without any age limit). Marriage does not affect eligibility for family pension.
(iv). Dependant parents.
(V). Dependant siblings.
14. What is the period up to which the family members are eligible for family pension?

15. What is the dependency criterion for eligibility for family pension?
No, income criteria is applicable to spouse for eligibility for family pension. For other family members (except child or sibling suffering from a disability), the income from other sources should be less than the minimum family pension (Rs. 9000/- p.m) plus dearness relief admissible thereon. However, in case of disabled child, he/she is deemed to be earning his/her livelihood, if his/her income from all other sources is less than entitled family pension I.e. 30% of the last pay drawn of the Government Servant.
