7th Pay Commission : Maharashtra employees to get benefits from Jan 1, 2019
Nearly 20 lakh employee in the Maharashtra government will get the benefit of 7th Pay Commission beginning January 1, 2019.
Minister of state for finance Deepak Kesarkar told the Legislative Council while replying to a question of MLC Kapil Patil, PTI reported.
Some Maharashtra state government employees and teachers had gone on a strike over this issue in August following which the government had appointed a committee headed by KP Bakshi.
Passing on benefit of 7th Pay Commission to 20 lakh employees will put a burden of Rs 40,000 crore on Maharashtra government’s treasury, Kesarkar said, adding, “However, the government will not wait for the report and implementation of 7th Pay Commission will commence from January 2019.”
He also said the arrears worth Rs 10,000 crore pending since 2016 for Maharashtra government employees will be cleared over a five-week period, while dearness allowance would be paid retrospectively for the past 14 months.
