VMC to implement 7th pay commission
Around 7,000 employees and an equal number of pensioners of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will get benefits of the 7th pay commission.
The VMC administration has put up a proposal in this regard before the elected wing seeking its nod.
The state government had decided in a notification on August 16 that it would give the benefits of the pay commission to its employees as well as those of the panchayats. The VMC also follows pay standards of the state government for its employees. Sources in the civic body said that it currently had around 7,000 employees on its rolls and 7,100 pensioners.
The state government circular had recommended that the employees as well as pensioners will have to be paid arrears from January 1 this year towards the increments following the implementation of the recommendations. The employees were to be given the benefits from the August salary paid in September while the pensioners were to be given the benefits from October salary paid in November.
According to the proposal put before the VMC standing committee, implementing the recommendations would lead to an additional burden of Rs 48crore to Rs 50crore on the VMC exchequer in the current financial year towards salaries and pensions. While no decision regarding arrears had been taken at present, it was likely that they would put an additional burden of Rs 90crore on the VMC.
