Sir,
Sub: Extending of flood relief to the employees affected by floods in Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu circle – reg.
I wish to bring the following to your kind notice, for favour of necessary action.
It is needless to state that the unprecedented rains that lashed Chennai and parts of coastal Tamil Nadu, have wreaked havoc and have brought untold miseries to the people. We highly appreciate your timely visit to Chennai, which has undoubtedly geared up the restoration of BSNL’s networks. It is also appreciable that during that visit, you took time to meet the representatives of all the unions and associations for discussing the matter. During that discussion, the representatives of the unions and associations have submitted memoranda to you, demanding immediate relief to the BSNL employees affected by the floods, which includes demand for payment
of interest free loan.
In this connection, I wish to draw your kind attention to the fact that many of the BSNL employees are also severely affected by the floods. It is an undeniable fact that in many parts of the Chennai city, houses got submerged in flood waters even upto the level of the first floor. All the belongings of the people in such places are completely destroyed. Our own employees are also there among such affected people. The damages caused to their belongings come to lakhs of rupees.
Under these circumstances, we feel that expeditious relief is not being extended to the flood affected employees of Chennai city, as well as parts of Tamil Nadu circle. Hence, we request that immediate releasing of funds by the BSNL Corporate Office may kindly be made. Flood Advance should be paid to the employees without any delay.
Further, the representatives of unions and associations, in their memoranda submitted to you, have demanded that interest free loan should be paid to the affected employees, who have lost their entire belongings. This is a very justified demand. We also demand that an interest free loan of Rs.one lakh should be paid to the affected employees. We feel that the financial crisis being faced by BSNL should not come in the way of extending this humanitarian help.
We request you to kindly look into this and to do the needful for the immediate releasing of necessary funds for flood relief, as demanded above.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
[P.Abhimanyu]
